Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Lukken peacefully passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, GA. Peggy was born on March 5, 1938, in Chattanooga, TN, to the late Thomas Rush McAfee and Frances Roos McAfee.
Peggy graduated from Girls Preparatory School and Emory University, where she was one of the first female students. After her graduation she faithfully served numerous churches as a minister’s wife while raising her two children. At the age of forty-two, she began a fulfilling career as a social worker at West Georgia Medical Center and went on to serve as the Director of the Cancer Clinic where she was part of a team that started what is now West Georgia Hospice.
In 1986, Peggy married the love of her life, Walt Lukken. Upon retiring, the couple embarked on adventures together, traveling and spending cherished moments at the beach with friends and family. Peggy had a passion for tennis, golf, cheering for the Braves, following the PGA tour, and playing Mahjong with friends. Her most loved role was being a grandmother, affectionately known as "Geggie" by her grandchildren.
Peggy was a resident of Vernon Woods, where she cultivated both new and long-lasting friendships. Her most enduring legacies include her unwavering faith in God, her deep commitment to the United Methodist Church, and her extraordinary dedication to her family and community.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Lukken, her son, Jeff Hagood, her stepdaughter, Deborah Edge, her grandson, Cole Hagood, her brother, Tommy McAfee, and her sister, Francie Ryder.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Myers (Richard), and stepchildren Jeff Lukken (Cindy), Laura Griffin, Carrie Downey, Peter Lukken (Miriam), Fritz Lukken, and Amy Lukken (Catherine).
