Mr. Burgess was born May 10, 1928 in LaGrange, son of the late Jimmy Lee Burgess, Sr. and Minnie Huey Burgess. He was a lifelong area resident and a member of Oakside Baptist Church. Mr. Burgess was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Burgess; his daughters, Sheryl Stephens and Debra (Chuck) Dye; grandchildren, Garrett and Daniel Dye, Wendy King, and Dawn Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Preston and Ben Kennedy, William and Mackenzie King.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Oakside Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Curry officiating. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
The family will gather to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
