

Roswell was born in LaGrange, Georgia son of Butler Alexander Evans, Sr. and Ida Louise Evans. He attended LaGrange High School. Roswell served in the US Army from October 4, 1939-July 1945 and completed his tour after engagements in Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rom-Arno, North Apenines and PO-Valley while assigned to the 755th Tank Battalion. He received EAMET Service Medal and the American Defense Service Medal.
Over the years Roswell was employed by Callaway Mills for twelve years and Mayo Chemical as a sales representative for thirty-two years.
Ros loved to work in the yard. He and his wife Carolyn are well known gardeners, both vegetables and flowers. He loved to grow tuberoses. One of his greatest joys was giving away the garden fruits of his labor.
He is survived by Carolyn Swanson Evans, his wife of sixty-six years, and by his sons Dr. Roswell Lee Evans, Jr ( Brenda Yates ) of Auburn. Al, Dr. Bennie Evans (Anna Richardson) of Griffin, GA., Dan Chester Evans (Jan Couch) of LaGrange, GA , Charles Meredith Evans (Deborah Boston) of Atlanta and four granddaughters, four grandsons and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Edna Brock of Arlington, Texas and Dorothy Hawn of Atlanta, Georgia. Roswell is preceded in death by four brothers, Butler Alexander, Marshall Sr., Alvin, Cleveland and two sisters, Rachel and Gaby.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, LaGrange, Georgia with Reverend Harold Lawrence officiating.
The family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jan Evans, 106 Windridge, LaGrange, GA and will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America at First Methodist Church of LaGrange Troup 21.
