

Betty Jean Vorman Dufrene departed this life peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2017. A native of DeQuincy, Betty has called Lake Charles home for 70 years. She was born to Lurline and Edward J. Vorman on December 20, 1928.
Betty was known for her devotion to God, family and the education of children.
She married Clyde Dufrene in 1948 and moved to Lake Charles to start their life together. They had two children, Mark and Vera.
Betty returned to McNeese to complete her education degree and earn a Masters' Degree and +30 certification in Administration and Supervision. This served her well in her many years as a teacher and Principal in Calcasieu Parish. Betty was among a group of woman influential in blazing the path for women in Administrative positions in Calcasieu Parish. One of the first female principals in Calcasieu Parish, she also served as a Consultant and on numerous school accreditation teams. In her retirement, Betty held many positions, including President, ofthe Calcasieu Parish Retired Teachers Association, served as an Interim Education instructor at McNeese University as well as a supervisor of student teachers. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Chi Omega.
Her strong faith was evidenced in her commitment to her church, First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her time in Sunday school, Women's Circle, Bell Choir and her many years of dedication to the church choir. Betty loved music, spending time with her family and friends, traveling and her cats. Betty's travels took her to Asia, Europe, Australia, Canada, and Mexico and extensively throughout the United States.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Clyde Dufrene; parents, Lurline and Edward Vorman; brother, Edward Vorman, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Vorman.
Those left to cherish her memory are son, Mark Dufrene and wife Brenda of Lake Charles; daughter, Vera Mulvey of Shreveport; grandsons, Aaron (Leigh) Mulvey, Matthew (Lauren) Dufrene, and Paul Dufrene; granddaughter Caroline Dufrene; great grandsons, Layton and Evan Mulvey and dear friend, Van Schmutz.
A Celebration of Betty's life will be at First United Methodist Church on Monday, December 18th at 1:00p.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Hobo Hotel in Lake Charles.
