Mrs. Hackett, I won't forget the kindness of Mr. Charlie.  He treated his customers as friends and that's hard to come across these days. I will miss not seeing him in his chair in the corner, he absolutely loved to strike up conversations from there and we had many many great ones!  Im glad he was able to live his dream with you and to own the best restaurant ever.  He will be missed.

To the Hackett Family, I've been a customer for many years. I did not  know Mr. Hackett other than entering the business and him greeting me kindly each time. He was the nicest man, and I will miss  seeing him weekly when I pick up his famous cracklins. This is such a sad loss for our town. You and all the workers will be in my prayers. Uncle Charlie always helped make Christmas and New Year's special when I was a kid. When he was here, he would make me squash with cheese sauce, Cajun style. He came to my concerts, both church and college. He introduced me to gumbo and alligator sausage. Now that's good eating! Uncle Charle, will always have a special place in my heart.

my sympathies to all of your family.  i never forgot how you sent food over for my son when he passed.  it was so thoughtful.  everyone said how delicious it was.  i,on the other hand,did not eat. i worked with rosie johnson's daughter in law,racquel ,and rosie was behind sending the food.

 I hope that this message will reveal to you my heartfelt understanding of the sorrow that you feel. My thoughts and prayers will be with you in sympathy today.  I always appreciated the kindness and generosity that Mr Hackett conveyed towards all the employees of Jefferson Davis Electric Coop during his years as a director.  He will be missed.

Mrs. Karen, First I want to say how great of a man Mr. Charlie was! He was loved, respected and a stranger to no one. I enjoyed my two years of working with him and you. Mr Hackett taught me so much and to this day I teach my employees the same principles he taught me. I know you will miss him, but I guarantee he is in a better place. I hope you understand that I will not be able to make the funeral, but I want badly to make it. If there is ANYTHING I can do for you, do not hesitate to call me. Karen are thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.  There are not enough words to describe Charlie and the way he always made us feel when we were in town.  We loved stopping by and hearing his latest story or joke and of course enjoying the wonderful food.  He will be greatly missed.  We will stop by next time we are in town to say hello and see how you are doing.

Charlie Hackett!  What a stature of a man with a heart just as big!  Always willing to help Sweet Lake United Methodist Church where I can remember worshiping with his Dad.  Mr. Charlie was very special to me for many reasons - one, because of the nice things he would say to me about my Mom, who died when she was 32, & knowing how young I was (13) when she passed away.  It meant so much to me to hear him talk about her.  And, how he laughed about a joke my Dad pulled on him lying about his age.  The big smile coming from Mr. Charlie sitting in the corner of the store will be missed - I look forward to Ms. Karen carrying on his tradition.  May Ms. Karen, family, friends, & staff recall good times from the past that brings smiles to your hearts & your faces!  Blessings to you all!

We are so saddened about Charlie's death. He was such a sweet, sweet man. The corner in the store will never be the same without him sitting there speaking to everyone that came in and then some customers sitting down to chat with him for a minute or two. He always had something funny to say. I will always remember the sound of his laugh. You take care and I will come by the store next time we come to Lake Charles to see you.

Butch, Carolyn and Christopher Castete(this one had a special place in his heart for Mr. Charlie)No matter how long it had been since Chris was around two years old when ya'll took over the store Charlie would laugh when he talked about Chris walking around the store with boudin hanging out of his mouth like a pacifier. Charlie had gotten a kick out of that and would always mention that when I would see him if it had been awhile.He would ask about Chris and mention it and just laugh and laugh.

I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.  Mr. Hackett was always a joy to be around.  I always enjoyed my visits with him even when he wasn't feeling his best.  He always spoke so highly of you.  I'm praying for you and am here if you need anything.
