

The youngest of 6 children, Evelyn was born February 14, 1921 to the late Clyde and Evelyn Stoddard of Bainbridge, GA. She was raised by her foster parents, Shelby and Anna Baker in Louisville, KY, where she graduated high school and attended Aaron Trade School for Book Binding.
Given the affectionate nickname “Rogie,” Evelyn was known throughout the community as a caregiver, friend, and active member of Bellview Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, singing hymns, admiring the flower garden and local wildlife, collecting stuffed animals and snow globes, and watching Days of Our Lives, Wheel of Fortune, and Antiques Road Show. Her fiery personality and quick wit made her a pleasure to be around, and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas James Rogers, 3 granddaughters, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her legacy continues with her 6 children, Eva (Harold) Hawkins of Louisville, KY, Thomas (Melba Jean) Rogers Jr. of Mobile, AL, Violet Elaine (Kenneth) Newton of Guston, KY, Dorothy (Michael) Broadbent of Brandenburg, KY, David (Cheryl) Rogers of Louisville, KY, Martha (Donald) Morris of Westlake, LA, 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and her loyal feline companion, Katie.
Funeral Services will be held at Hixson’s Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by the Service at 2:00 pm and a burial at Westlake Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of memorial donations, stuffed animals and flowers are appreciated.
