

Lake Charles- Frances "Punk" Schmid, 87, passed from this life at her home on December 3rd, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Schmid was born and raised in Oak Grove, LA. Most of Mrs. Schmid's life was spent serving others, caring for family, traveling and working in her yard with her flowers. Her favorite times were with her family and friends and most especially at home, her camp, or the beach. She was a long time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society, Come Lord Jesus group, and served as Extraordinary Minister of Communion to those homebound and in the nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ernest Schmid and her parents, John and Esther Meaux.
Survivors include her three daughters, Kathryn Comeaux and husband, Lynn of Houston, Texas, Esther Liggio and husband, Scott of Lake Charles, Karen Maddock and husband, Tom of Springdale, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Austin Comeaux and wife, Amelie, Elise Hajovsky and husband, David, Sarah Comeaux, Amanda Liggio and fiance’, Chad Coltharp, Adam Liggio, Anna Liggio, Rachel Maddock and Caleb Maddock and two great grandchildren, Louis and Peter Comeaux; two sisters, Althea Cox and Madge Reina and husband, J.C.; sister-in-law, Mary Schmid; and numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime friend Sylvia Doucet.
Visitation will be from 5pm-9pm, on Thursday, December 6, 2012, with a rosary at 7pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will resume at 9am until time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Bill Miller will be 11am, Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.
