George Fruge, 93, of Lake Charles, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at an area hospital.
He was born February 22, 1921 in Lacassine to Remie and Lobintine (Manuel) Fruge. He married Anna Sonnier in 1978 in Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents, three brothers, Herman, Wallace and Wilbur Fruge and one sister Genevieve Manuel.
Surviving two sons, Larry Fruge of Lake Charles, and Lonnie and his wife Diana Fruge of Sulphur, one daughter; Marlene and her husband Johnnie Courville of Orange, TX; one sister, Marie Prather of Moss Bluff, two step children, Sue Parker and Brenda Gremillion, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
George served in the U.S. Marine during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was an oil worker and worked in several of the area oil fields and was owner and operator of George’s Pack a bag on Highway 14. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, the Lake Charles VFW and the Cajun French Music Assoc. George enjoyed gardening, dancing, friend and family and he especially loved Cajun music.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 5 to 9 pm with a rosary at 6pm, and will resume Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 9 am at Hixson funeral home in Lake Charles. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 am Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Burial will follow the service at Consolata Cemetery.
