For your Dad, He made me laugh and I loved his sense of humor.

Mark, I am so sorry to hear about your dad.  He was always so nice to me. It never gets easier to deal with your loss, believe me, I lost my dad 4 yrs ago and miss him everyday, but I do find peace in knowing that he isn't suffering anymore and he is in a better place.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time and in the future.  I know we have lost touch over the years, but if you ever need anything, the kids know how to reach me, I'm here to lend an ear. May God bless y'all.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. It's been many years since we saw Gordon... he blessed us by visiting us in Colorado. He has a special place in my heart. He was tough on the outside but soft on the inside!! May God bless you and comfort you with your loss. Love and prayers from Colorado!

Sending my deepest sympathy to you all. Truly broke my heart when I read this in the newspaper. He was a wonderful Supervisor who I had the privilege of working with.  He was also a great friend to many.  My prayers go out to each of you.

To Donald and the entire Monroe family.  You are in my heart, prayers and thoughts.  I know this is a very private time in your lives, but please know you don't travel this road with out the love of those whom ever had the privilege to meet your father or see the fantastic legacy he leaves.

Mark, Mr. Monroe made me feel better so many times when I was in the Hospital just by stopping by to check on me,  He did it because he cared,  I will miss my friend, even when he grew out his beard like a mountian man an i only saw him now and then, he still had love and concern to share. He will be missed. RIP

God blessed me by knowing Gordon. I have fond memories of Gordon from High School and it was a honor knowing him. May God bless his family and his memory.

I am so sorry for the passing of Gordon. I can still remember his delightful humor and how he enjoyed my split pea soup. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Sorry for your loss cousins i remember growing up and spending a lot of time at your house ..my dad helping your dad build your house in the bluff and the florida vacations  i miss those days ....

Mr. Monroe was someone who touched us all. As teenagers growing up around his house I am sure he had to exercise restraint to not physically touch us a number of times. A favorite memory of mine involving Mr. Monroe was one time when I was dropping Mark off at their house. We pulled up to the driveway, and if you ever drove the driveway you knew or would soon know the only rule. Speed Limit approximately 2 1/2 mph give or take a mile per hour. Well Mark and I had been discussing the speed limit and were soon deciding that we had to determine the top speed we could reach on the driveway. I repeatedly asked Mark if his Dad was home, and after about the fifth time of assuring me that his Dad was at work, we proceeded down the driveway at breakneck speed. I was calling out the miles per hour as Mark was just hanging on. We got close to the house and I let off the gas when we both looked to the right. Mr. Monroe was now walking off the hill just past the shop and coming our way. The dust was catching up to us as we came to a stop right next to the house. We looked at each other and figured this was the last we would see of each other, and that might be the least of what would happen. All I could say was "I thought you said he wasn't home." Mr. Monroe was still coming toward us, taking his time. He still hadn't got to the shop yet when Mark decided that he wasn't going to stick around, popped open his door, told me "later" and headed inside the house. I sat there in the driveway awaiting my fate as he came around the shop and over to my truck window. It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life at that point and I was shaking. Mr. Monroe leaned into my truck and said "I don't think I need to say anything now do I?" I shook my head no, and that was it. How I wasn't buried along that winding stretch of driveway I will never know. I know we tested his patience more than once as teenagers, but he never lost his cool. And having raised teenagers I have come to respect that even more now. He was always there to help us out or teach us how to use something in the shop or just around the house. You name it he could do it, and was happy to teach you. I have many fond memories of Mr. Monroe, and will cherish them always. He was and always will be a loved member of my family.

Sorry to hear Mark. Me and my dad wen't up to his place a few years back and that had been the first time i believe i've met him, at least to my recollection. He had a lot to talk about. I know dad was down about it. Keep your head up. We're thinking about you.

I know you are in a better place. We still talk about your asparagus garden you had all those years ago. Blessings and peace on the family.
