I was in Mr. Crews’ choir at Landry. I recall choral competitions held at McNeese where we finished well. My favorite memories are of singing the dawn Mass at St. Patrick’s Hospital. He taught me to sing 
Tantum ergo. Sixty six years later I still sing Tantum ergo. I am sorry that Mr. Crews is no longer with us on this Earth . I am happy that he is with Jesus.   Thank you Mr. Crews.

Wishing the Crews family peace and comfort as you grieve the loss of Mr. Jerry Crews.  I've always appreciated the approach Mr. Crews took when teaching Chorus to middle school students.  A heavy dose of Chicago, Lionel Richie, and Phil Collins made it very interesting.  I still think of him today when hearing those artists.  

Rest in Peace Mr. Crews - thanks for everything, you will be missed.
TDM (FK White Middle School 1984-1987)

He could terrify a young freshman at the Governor's Program, especially one with a wandering mind, but he really had a heart of gold and those turned into delightful summers. He had to improvise a music appreciation class one summer. l don't imagine a bunch of 14 year olds were the most appreciative students he could have at 10 o'clock on summer mornings but some of it did get through and I still like Baroque music. I think more than anything he taught me how to listen to music and for that I owe him my thanks.

Such a great teacher and a great man! Thank you so much for being my music teacher in 6th and 7th grade at FK  White.

Mr. Crews was my music teacher at F.K. White from 1983-1986. He was one of the best. I'll never forget you, Mr. Crews. Rest in peace, sir. ❤️

In the 8th grade I transferred to FK White and had the privilege of singing in Choir with Mr. Crews. He recognized my abilities, and was a great influence and teacher. He encouraged me to continue singing in high school, which led to my decision to study music in college and pursue a career in music. I often think of the importance of his influence which shaped the trajectory of my Life. God bless you Mr Crews.

My daughter Jessica has been learning piano with Mr Crews for several years. Mr Crews is an excellent teacher and has been a wonderful inspiration, not just  to Jessica but to all of his students. We all love Mr Crews and will miss him so very much! Rest peacefully Mr Crews ❤️🙏

Mr. Crews was my chorus director at Lake Charles High. He was such a nice man.  R.I.L. Mr. Crews!

Goodbye Mr, Crews. You taught me a lot about music, but also about language, theatre and culture. It was a pleasure to both sing and play piano under your watch. You are one of those adults who helped raise me. I thank you deeply.

Oh, Jerry, we can remember the good ole days! There has not been another person like you! You are loved by so many people.

I visited him 3 yrs. ago at his apartment !
He had lots of memorabilia  from his teaching music to students! He gave me this photo and if you could identify some of these ICS choir boys, it would be great ! I can pick out some of them !!  I am fourth from the right on the first row!
He told me Monsignor Louis  Boudreaux wanted an all boys choir to sing at Mass.
So Mr. Crews put one together and we practiced and went to festivals, sang at Christmas at different peoples homes and sang in the mornings at early Mass and other Solemn occasions! It was a  wonderful learning experience!
I took piano lessons from him and rode my bike to his home on Lake St.
God Bless his Soul !!

Jerry was a most generous soul.  He gave me my first camera, an Argus C3.   I loved helping him with the choir at Immaculate Conception Parish church, and riding in his sports car.  I’m so thankful for time spent with him - and equally sorry I didn’t go visit him at the retirement center.  Jerry was an accomplished musician and organist.  I spent hours listening to classical music with him.  I’m sure he is up there playing the Victoria Gloria with the angelic hosts singing praises to God.  Rest In Peace Jerry.  You’ve earned it. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

When I came to Lake Charles, I attended 6:30 AM Mass at Queen of Heaven. Mr. Jerry recruited me to be in the scola that sang at that Mass. He recruited all of us. What a joy to be with him. This photo was taken in July 2016.

I will miss Jerry deeply.  We shared a love of music, and singing with him at the 7am Sunday Mass at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church remains one of the great pleasures of my musical life.  He was a sweet, gentle man whose smile always warmed my heart.  Rest in Peace, dear friend.

Mr. Crews was the best teacher anyone could have asked for. He gave his all to every student and he gave his all as my sponsor for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. He will be greatly missed, but his teachings will forever live on in the hearts of all of his students and family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Lena Granger Crews, brothers Lee B. Crews, Sr. and Jimmy Crews, as well as his niece Martha Crews Core. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Dorothy Crews Moorefield, Melanie Crews Hallman, Lee Berchman (Burke) Crews, Jr., Cobert Joseph Crews, Danny Crews and Jimmy Daniel Crews, Jr.
He is ALSO survived by a multitude of students (his children) whom he taught over a 70-year career of music education in piano and vocal music in South Louisiana.
