Joan Eloise Cassell

Born May 21, 1944 to Marion Mericle and Essie (Gray) Mericle, she was the fifth of six children (3 girls and 3 boys) born. She grew up in the DeQuincy / Holbrook park area and after marrying lived in Lake Charles for the remaining portion of her life. After graduating high school in DeQuincy, she attended nursing school and became a License Practical Nurse. She worked for several doctors throughout her career in the Lake Area, including doctors at The Children’s Clinic for years and then retired after working for Dr. Lee Monlezun. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son Douglas W. Cassell and wife Bridgette of Tulsa, OK., brother; Marvin Mericle of Bentonville, AR, three grandchildren; Janett, Samantha and Matthew Cassell. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and siblings – Jim Mericle, Don Mericle, Elaine Golf, and Pauline Aguilar.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 16, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA., and will resume Wednesday, February 17, at 12:00pm until time of service. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 17, 2016 1:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home with a burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA.
