John was born August 1, 1936 in Sulphur, LA to John Cranford Fontenot and Mary Beatrice .John was a life long resident of Westlake and was very involved with the Boy Scouts of American troop #86. Serving as a Scout Master, Scout Master Assistant and Charter Organization Representative and he was also instrumental in the building of the Scout hut in Westlake LA. John was also a member of the American Legion Post 370.
John is survived by his wife, Winifred Ann Fontenot; daughter, Laura DeJuan Lognion and husband, Jerrel James of Dry Creek, LA; sons, Lawrence Edward Fontenot and Stephen Lee Fontenot of Westlake LA; six grandchildren, three sisters, and three brothers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Leonard Fontenot Jr., and four brothers.
