

.Joseph Harry "Pop" Reon, Sr, 94, left this world on July 20, 2016 to rejoin his wife, Ina, after a separation of 12 years. They walk together again, in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Reon is survived by his sister, Annie Reon DeMarie of Big Lake, brother John Cecil Reon and wife Bettye of Singer, and sister Alice Reon Walker of Ruth, Mississippi; his children, son Joe Reon Jr, and wife Christine of LeBleu Settlement, daughter Ina Marie "Sue" Breaux of LeBleu Settlement, son David Reon and wife Nita of Hecker, son John Reon and wife Angie of LeBleu Settlement, and Michael Higdon of Moss Lake, a man he raised as his son. Mr. Reon was loved and will be dearly missed by 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Blanche Reon, loving wife of 61 years, Ina Marie Constance Reon, son James "Jimmy" Reon, and brother Paul Reon of Lafayette.
Harry graduated from LaGrange High School and soon after joined the Civilian Conservation Core. He then joined the US Navy and served aboard the Destroyer, the USS Dunlap, during World War II as a radar operator, mainly in the Pacific Theater and loved to relate stories of his time in service to our country. He was chosen in 2008 as a KPLC TV "Hometown Hero". He worked for PPG Industries, where he was affectionately known as "Big Joe" and retired after 38 years. He attended St Joseph's Church in LeBleu Settlement.
To his friends and family, he was kind, generous, and loving, and never met a stranger. His gentle spirit and contagious laughter touched the hearts of all who knew him and many lives were greatly impacted by his wisdom and guidance. He will be sorely missed.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their love and kindness, as we navigated this diffcult journey. Thank you also to Dr. Peter Karam and Dr. Jorge Kohatsu, for their care, concern and treatment of our father.
Visitation will be held at Hixon Funeral Home on Ryan St. from 9am until 9pm, Friday July 22. Additional visitation wil be held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in LeBleu Settlement, starting at 9am with the Rosary at 11am. The funeral will follow at 12pm.
