(1925-2016)
Margaret “Marge” Fisk Munro was born in Lake Charles on June 17, 1925 and graduated from La Grange High School in 1943. She was always a good student academically and loved music, theater and art while later pursuing a very successful career in modeling, fashion and teaching. Marge was well known to many and loved by all for her gifted personality, her beauty and poise, and her outstanding communication skills. She prided herself on being a true southern lady.
Marge met John J. Munro, Jr. from Medford, Massachusetts while he was in Naval Officer Flight Training in Corpus Christi, Texas and they were married in December 1945 after only 2 dates and lots of letters. They were married for 53 years and lived primarily in California and New Mexico during her husbands’ military career in the Navy and Marine Corps before relocating to St. Louis, MO and finally back to Lake Charles where they lived for many years in Moss Bluff. They only saw each other briefly during World
War II and the Korean conflict and their son John “Jay” Munro III was born in 1946. Sadly, Jay was tragically killed in a car accident at age 22 while a student at McNeese State University.
Marge worked for modeling agencies and also taught and coached teenage girls in etiquette, modeling, fashion design and public speaking. Marge also worked in public relations and broadcasting and made numerous TV appearances in St. Louis and New York City and later became very involved in civic causes and politics. She was active in local, state and national Republican Party campaigns and participated in many fund raisers. Marge was voted “Lake Charles Woman of the Year” in 1973. She loved to
play bridge and always loved her many dogs who were her “angels”.
