Throughout her life, and even through her diagnosis, Marsha never stopped being the same supportive, funny, caring, and deeply loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend that everyone knew and cherished. She had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for, and she gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly.
Marsha’s greatest joy was her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, talking to them, spoiling them, and holding them. She is their “Nana” and they were the light of her life.
Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Stephen Eugene Carter and Dolores Thompson Carter; and her siblings, Eugene Orlando Carter and Kathy Carter McCalla.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Todd DiBartolo; her two children, Josh DiBartolo (Mallory) and Stephanie Faul (Seth); her four grandchildren, Francis and Eloise DiBartolo, Aiden DiBartolo, and Sophia Faul; and her siblings, Dr. Stephen Lyall Carter (Eve), Fred Carter (Kristi), and Jenny Sutton (Grady).
Marsha’s life can best be understood through the overwhelming outpouring of love and support shown by her friends and family. She was fun to be around, easy to listen to, and always willing to offer advice whether you asked for it or not. She was thoughtful and generous, and if you were close to her, she would do everything she could to help. That same love was returned to her over the last two months of her life, a reflection of just how deeply she loved and was loved in return.
Marsha and her children are profoundly thankful for everyone who offered support, whether that be internally, through prayers and thoughts, or outwardly, through kind words, messages, visits, meals, or calls.
From family members who checked in on her frequently, helped her navigate complex medical questions and records, opened their homes to out of town visitors...TO longtime family friends Molly and Yvonner, who visited and brought comfort, laughter, and smiles during difficult days, we are grateful.
We are also grateful for Marsha’s Camp Mystic friends—Gay, Stacy, Jennifer, Traci, Laura, Kam, and Lea, who organized virtual calls to reminisce, laugh, and remember shared experiences as campers.
Marsha spoke often and proudly of her time at Camp Mystic for Girls, located in Hunt, Texas. She was a lifelong Camp Mystic family member and an enthusiastic ambassador for her hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana, always sharing stories about its people and places with her camp friends. In her final year at camp, she served as a cheerleader for the Tonkawa tribe, helping with spirit signs and cheers.
Gay and friends shared that Marsha was one of the sweetest and most caring people they had ever known, and that her warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed.
That was Marsha, loving, thoughtful, joyful, and always smiling. She is, and definitely will be missed, but she leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, love, and faith that will continue to live on through all who knew her.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. until the procession departs for the church at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by burial at Prien Memorial Park. Msgr. Harry Greig will officiate at the services.
The family finds comfort in the promise of Scripture:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Psalm 67:1
