

She was born on July 12, 1918 in Wesson, Arkansas to Ben and Florence Goza. Following the death of her mother when she was 12, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Richard and Mae Moss. She married William Harold Byrd in 1935 and they lived in several small towns in Louisiana while Harold was employed in construction. They made their home in Lake Charles in 1946. Mildred worked for the City of Lake Charles Water Company for 27 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and shopping and in her younger years, loved playing Bingo at the VFW on Friday evenings. She put God and her family first in everything she did and was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughter, Twila Byrd Mallett; her granddaughter, Kayla Mallett Rigney and husband, Bruce and her great-granddaughter, Kelsey Morgan.
Her funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. til the start of service. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.
