

She was a native of Reids, LA and was born into the James Monroe and Celona Hardee Houston’s large family and enjoyed being one of nine siblings.
She has lived in Lake Charles since 1944. She attended Hopewell Methodist Church in her younger years. She also went to a rural school, Black Jack School (no longer existing) and graduated from Elizabeth High School. She earned her B.S. Degree in Education in 1929 from Normal State College, now Northwestern State University. She taught in Fairview High School in Allen Parish for eight years and in Calcasieu Parish twenty one years-two years at T.S. Cooley and nineteen years at La Grange Middle School. She also took refresher courses at McNeese University.
She was a member of Louisiana Retired Teachers and Calcasieu –Cameron Parish Retired Teachers. She was a charter member of University United Methodist Church and in her earlier years taught Sunday School and worked with the Intermediate Department. She was a past member of the Caring Committee working with the nursing homes. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Adam-Creel Circle, the Stonerollers Bible Class and the Prayer and Praise Study Group. She was also an Honorary member of the Church’s Administrative Council.
She is survived by one son, two daughters, and their spouses: Sherwood Golemon and wife, Betty Arthur Goleman, Barbara Golemon Hebert and husband, Olin (Buggs) Hebert, and Carolyn Angelo and husband, Herb Angelo (deceased) all of Lake Charles. She has eight grandchildren and spouses: Linda Hebert Sonnier, Becky Hebert Sonnier and husband, Greg, Marla Golemon Chatagnier and husband, Bert, Matthew Golemon, Shannon Kibodeaux, Brandi Kibodeaux and husband, Dan Sonnier, all of Lake Charles, Olin Hebert and wife, Annette McInnis Hebert of Center, TX, Kathy Hebert Butler and husband, Colonel Stephen Butler of Colorado Springs, CO.
She has nineteen great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Sonnier, Jeffrey and Hayley Chatagnier, Kailyn, Abigail and Ethan Sonnier, Jaidyn Kibodeaux, Braelyn Simms all of Lake Charles, Trey and Heather Hebert of Center, TX, Zachery, Joshua, Jeremy, Nathaniel, Samuel, Caleb, Seth and Danielle Butler of Colorado Springs, CO.
Being the “last leaf on the tree”, she has no living siblings but she does have two sister-in-laws still living; Ruby Houston of Bogalusa, LA and Gordie Houston of Pitkin, LA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. (Beaumont) Golemon and grandson, Jeffrey Golemon; her parents, three brothers, C.T. Houston, Elbert Henry and John Delbert Houston; five sisters, Edith H. Carroll Verda H. White, Esther H. Williams, Audrey H. Sigler and Vivian H. Nevils; four brother-in-laws, Lewis Carroll, Rev. C.B. White, Paul Sigler and Wilson Nevils and one sister-in-law, Ollie C. Houston.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at University Methodist Church. Rev. Charlie Langford will officiate. Graveside services will be that afternoon at 1 p.m. in Black Jack Cemetery, in the Hopewell Methodist Church area. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and will resume on Thursday, at the church, from 9-10 a.m.
The entire Golemon Family wishes to thank Dr. Maureen Kaough and Dr. Luke Williams for their professional and caring skills administered to our mother over the years she was in their care.
We want to express our sincere and grateful appreciations to Donna LeJune who faithfully and lovingly cared for Mom for over two years. Also thanks to Sandy Reon and Sheila McFarland for willingly helping Donna when needed. Mom enjoyed all that everyone did to make her life full and enjoyable. Last, but not least, our heartfelt thanks goes to Linda who spent many, many nights over the last two years with her grandmother taking care of her personal needs as well as working puzzles and having devotionals which Mom enjoyed to the fullest.
