She was born in Iowa, LA. And attended Iowa High School where she was active in sports. She was a parishioner at St. Henry Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister, the coordinator of the Hi-God Program. She was also the church secretary for many years. She volunteered at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, and later was employed at St. Patrick’s Hospital as an EKG technician. Nola was an excellent cook, and loved to sing and dance. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events, and having all of her children and grandchildren over for the Holidays. She had close ties to her siblings and their spouses throughout her life. Nola enjoyed her companionship with her friends at Rosewood Nursing Center, where she was the Mardi Gras Queen for 2017 and a Bingo Champion. She loved all the activities that they offered her and was often featured on the News and in the local Press.
She is survived by her daughter in law, Barbara Broussard of LeBleu Settlement; children, Carl Broussard and wife Julie of Sulphur, Tina Fuselier and husband Doug of Lake Charles, Russell Broussard and wife Crystal of Lake Charles, Deanna Johnson and husband Ron of Moss Bluff, Richard Broussard and wife Deirdre of Lake Charles, Lynette Sonnier and husband Brian of Lake Charles; siblings, Ruth Johnson of Iowa, Charles Bourgeois and wife Barbara of Lake Charles, Kenneth Bourgeois and wife Bert of Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Gordon Broussard; son, Robert Wayne Broussard; her parents, Dudley and Lelia Bourgeois; brothers, D.J. Bourgeois, Richard Bourgeois; two grandchildren, Andrea and Sara Broussard; along with a granddaughter in law, Jennifer Broussard of Austin, TX.
Services will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 1:00pm with Father Matthew Cormier officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 3:00-9:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Visitation will resume on Thursday at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles from 9:00am until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Lacassine Cemetery.
