Paul grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Hackettstown High School and proceeded to study English and Biological Science at Findlay University. On April 20, 1968, he married Carolyn Sosnovik. Together, they spent 54 years building a life that began in their home state of New Jersey and continued in Sulphur, Louisiana, where they moved in 1980.
For twenty years, Paul proudly served in the National Guard, both in New Jersey and Louisiana. He continued his education and earned an Associate of Arts degree from McNeese State University in 1987. He pursued professional training through Dale Carnegie coursework and active participation in Toastmasters International.
Known for his strong work ethic, intelligence, and integrity, Paul worked primarily in retail management, purchasing, and sales for F.W. Woolworth Co., The Kroger Co., Billy Navarre Chevrolet, and BMC Supply. His honesty, sense of fairness, and genuineness earned him the respect of his co-workers and employees, as well as the trust and loyalty of his customers.
He found joy in boating, camping, and fishing. He held a lifelong passion for classical music and opera. He devoted much of his time in his later years to the rescue and care of animals. Those who knew Paul were endeared by his sincerity and sense of humor. His daughters will especially miss his quick wit, which he shared through rhymes, puns, and impromptu songs.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Seth Masar; and his beloved wife, Carolyn Sosnovik Masar.
He is survived by his daughters, Meredith Boullion, married to Russell, and Jennifer Masar; his granddaughters, Caroline and Annabella Boullion; and his siblings, Marina “Duz” Masar and Mark Masar.
At his request, a private remembrance will be held for the immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation in his name to Hobo Hotel for Cats.
Please leave fond memories for the Masar family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
