Rufus Gerard McEvers, better know as “Rudy” to his friends and family, passed away Sunday, January, 2011. He was a graduate of South Cameron High School, class of 1977. He went to work in the oil fields and worked a number of years for his dad, managing Rudy’s Fisherman Stop in Creole. He later went to work for Redman supply, a supplier of oil field supplies. Due to illness, Rudy had to stop working where he later had to be put in Golden Age Nursing Home, until the time of his death. His love of life was his two sons, Little Rudy and Joey. Rudy loved to fish, loved the outdoors and before the Hurricane, fished 4-5 times a week. After Hurricane Rita, he moved to Toledo Bend and really enjoyed the lake, plus the wharf he had to fish on, Negret Creek. He loved life and lived it to its fullest. His sickness put him in a wheelchair and then his life was television, watching fishing and hunting shows, and football games. His LSU tigers were his excitement and his nursing home room was filled with LSU shirts, caps, and curtains, plus – He also loved the “Who Dat” team, the New Orleans Saints. Rudy believed in prayer and was ready to meet the Good Lord. He fought a battle that lasted almost 20 years, the last 5 very tough, but he fought his battles courageously until the end. He will be missed by his family and friends. But now in heaven, he’ll meet with his old fishing buddies, Mike King, Gerald Richard and Bolo Trosclair, to name a few. Also, he said 3 days before his death that God promised him that he would walk in heaven. He’s ok now and in his resting place with no more pain.
Rudy was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3014 of Creole, Woodmen of the World of Creole, member of Lemesche Bass Club of Cameron Parish, past member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Creole and a member of Bassmasters.
