Alan Benedict

Alan R. Benedict, 71, of Ionia, passed away on May 11, 2015 at his home after long battle with cancer. He was born on November 30, 1943 to Albert W. and Jane W. (Steadman) Benedict in Ionia, MI. He was a 1960 graduate of Lyons Township High School. On May 17, 1996 he married Gail McClelland and she survives. Alan along with Gail worked as a Long Haul Truck Driver for 14 years, where together they got to see many beautiful things. He was a member of the NRA and Central Michigan Sportsman Club in Stanton, MI. Alan is survived by his loving spouse of 18 years Gail, son, Gerald Benedict; two sisters, Judi (Robert) Vander Veen, MI, Sue (Stefan) Laxdal; two step daughters, Rena (James) Middaugh, Sonia Van Driel; Step Son, Gene (Kendra) Smith; four sister in laws, Rachel(Terry) Jordan, Cheryl (John) Newman, Diane (Darrell) McGaun, Karen(Douglas) Riggs; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren . He was preceded in death by step daughter, Paula Grooter and his parents, Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Koops Funeral Chapel, Inc., Lake Odessa, MI.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, 11:00 am at the Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, MI with burial will take place in the Woodland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Ionia or to the family to help with expenses.
