Alma M. Smith

Alma M. Smith, 97, of Woodland, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, at her residence. She was born September 21, 1914 in Gladwin, the daughter of Jacob and Gertrude (Shaffer) Guy. Alma married Leslie Smith on November 4, 1936 in Angola, Indiana. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on June 3, 1991. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Woodland. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie LeRoy Smith; granddaughters, Kimberly Sarver, Andrea Dahms and Paula Grooters; brother, Myron Guy; sisters Valetta Bosworth, Neva Kantner, Arlene Suntken and Reva Neunfeldt. Surviving are her children, Claude (Mary) Smith of Woodland, L.D. (Georgiea) Smith of Freeport, Bernie (Barbara) Smith of Woodland, Janice (David) Christie of Boise, Idaho, Wayne (Janice) Smith of Hudsonville, Timothy (Diane) Smith of Lansing, Penny Dahms of Lake Odessa, Kristene (Thomas) Willbrandt of Nashville; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday at Koops Funeral Chapel – Lake Odessa. Funeral Services for Alma will be conducted at 11 am on Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 6338 Velte Road, Woodland, with Pastor Jonathan Reid, officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. Memorial donations in Alma's name may be directed to Pennock Hospice, 1230 W. State St., Hastings, MI 49058.
