Jean Marie Cook, age 88, of Freeport, Michigan passed away at her home on May 28, 2025. She was born on June 12th, 1936 in Kalamazoo, MI to Merle and Agnes (Foote) Count. Jean grew up on a farm in Clarksville where her love of farming began. She was a 1954 graduate of Saranac High School, all while seeing a young man by the name of Charlie Cook from Freeport. After serving his country, Charlie and Jean married on February 6th, 1955 relocating to a farm near Freeport. This union was blessed with six children and 58 years of marriage until his passing in February of 2013. On top of managing a family and farm Jean worked at various jobs including A&P, General Tire, insurance sales and JC Penney. In 2020 Jean met Donald Leak and was introduced to many new adventures. They married October 10th, 2020 though the marriage was brief due to his passing in 2024, it brought much happiness to them both.
Jean will be forever cherished by her children Susan (Warren) Steele, Cynthia (Richard) Knoop, Brenda (Kenneth) Steele, Laureen (Wesley Olsen) Cook, Darvin (Angela) Cook, Linden (Kimberly) Cook, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with one more due August 5th, sister in law Rose Rine, sister Janet Erb, along with many nieces, nephews.
Preceding her in death are parents, husbands Charlie Cook and Donald Leak, siblings Richard, Lyle and Judy Count, great grandsons Austin Endres and Finnegan Platz.
A visitation for Jean will be held Monday, June 2, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Koops Funeral Chapel, 935 4th Ave, Lake Odessa, Michigan 48849. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church, 912 4th Ave, Lake Odessa, MI 48849.
Jean will be laid to rest in Fuller Cemetery, 4400 N Charlton Park RD, Hastings, MI 49058.
