Joyce Ann Ost

Joyce Ann Ost, age 63, of Lake Odessa, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, MI with her family by her side. Joyce was born on May 6, 1947 in Newton, North Carolina. She was the only daughter of Bertie and Arthur Woodby. She was raised in the mountains of Elizabethton, Tennessee where she learned to farm tobacco, and developed the green thumb that would reflect her talents of having beautiful flowers every summer. Joyce always had a passion for gardening and animals. Most of all, her children were the love of her life. The four things that defined Joyce Ann were her faith, her children, her husband, and her home. She was raised a Southern Baptist by her father who was a minister. Joyce moved to Arizona in 1976, and met her husband, Charles Ost, a native of Lake Odessa, on her 30th birthday in 1977. They were married on June 3, 1978 and moved from Arizona to Michigan in the spring to start a new life together. When times were tough, Joyce always had the most positive outlook on life and found ways to get through the challenges. She was the definition of the word strength, and everyone who had the pleasure to meet her could testify to that. She was indeed a beautiful woman inside and out. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bertie Woodby; and brothers, Bobby Calhoun and Buddy Calhoun. Joyce is survived by her husband, Charles Ost of Lake Odessa; brother, Carl Calhoun of Tennessee; daughter, Vonda and husband, Steve Goodenough of Hastings; daughter, Darcie Wolfgang and fiancé, Jason Thomas of Lake Odessa; son, Ryan Ost and fiancée, Casey Johnson of Hastings; daughter, Shar-Lee and husband, Randy Wiers of Lake Odessa; grandchildren, Anthony, Casey, and Britney Goodenough, Ashley Morton, Brooke and Austin Wolfgang, and Reese and Mylee Wiers; and great granddaughter, Alivia Woodman. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 12 at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the German Baptist Cemetery on Vedder Road following the service. Joyce Ann Ost will be greatly missed and loved always by her family and all that knew her.
