

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Warren Hyde passed away on April 20, 2026 at the age of 77.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max L. and Aleta M. Hyde, and his sister, Linda F. Lucyshyn (Harry H. Lucyshyn)
He is survived by his wife Portia J Hyde (née Knight), daughter Jessica J. Kelley (Christopher) of Medford, NY, son James D. Hyde of Battle Creek, MI, and nephew Gregory K. Lucyshyn (Christine) of Saint Servant, France and his grandchildren Thomas J. Kelley, Jason M. Kelley, Quinn L. Kelley, Oliver J. Hyde, George F. Hyde, Penelope A. Hyde, Victor L. Lucyshyn and Martin J. Lucyshyn.
Larry was a lifelong member of the Homer community. He was a 1967 Homer High School graduate before earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University in 1971.
Larry met his wife, Portia, in high school and married in June of 1971. They were married nearly 55 years.
He was employed as a truck driver and worked the family land as a farmer.
He was an active member of York Rite Masonry including Homer Humanity Lodge #29 F&AM , Royal Arch Masons Chapter #130, Marshall Commandery #17 Knights Templar of Michigan, Grand Prelate Emeritus of the Grand Commandery of Michigan, and Hiram Council #14.
Larry was a member of the BSA in his childhood as a Cub Scout and served several years as Scoutmaster of Troop 156. He served decades as an adult leader. He was instrumental in creating Homer Troop 129.
Larry also served on the Clarendon Township Board of Appeals, was involved with Homer Caring and Sharing, and a lifetime member of the Homer Historical Society.
He was a 2008 George Award recipient, honored for his effort in refurbishing a portion of the Homer Masonic Temple building and facilitating a twenty year lease at a nominal cost to Homer Caring and Sharing and the food pantry.
Larry had a passion for playing music including trombone, recorder and the keyboard. He also enjoyed wood working and was a fan of Oliver tractors.
Larry was a candid communicator and a sharp observer of the world. He had a very strong sense of right and wrong as well as a drive to be in service to others, and worked hard to instill those values into his children and with the youth he mentored throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Homer Masonic Temple on May 9th, 2026 from 1pm to 5pm, with a Masonic service at 2pm and is open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
