CARPENTER - Norien Carpenter, age 87, went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2015. Along with her husband, Jerry, who preceded her in death in 1997 at the age of 70, started Jerry’s Tire in Lake Odessa in 1948. Norien was born on April 25, 1928 in Ionia to Roy and Sarah Hinds. She had a sister, Lillian Bittenbender, who lived in California, and who preceded Norien in death.
Norien graduated from Ionia County Normal. While growing up on the farm with sister Lillian, Norien found out that she would rather be driving a team of horses or milk cows rather than doing domestic chores in the house. In her later years, she enjoyed sending and receiving email jokes and posting to Facebook. Norien was an avid fisherman and a very savvy card player – you did not want to compete with her as a Euchre opponent. In her earlier years, she enjoyed deer hunting with Jerry. Her greatest passion was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She raised four children: Sue Ellen Moodie of Bonita Springs, Florida (Erren Chase (Justin) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and John Michael Moodie II of Las Vegas, Nevada); Mark and Pam Carpenter of Ionia, Michigan (Jay and Angela Carpenter (Hannah) of Lake Odessa, Michigan; Joshua Carpenter of Byron Center, MI; and Megan and Doug Brotherton (Madison) of Houston, Texas); Christy and Ray Jedlouski of Caledonia, Michigan (Eric & MacKenzie Wells (Rheegan, Tanner and Bailey) of Freeport, Michigan; Chad & Amy Wells (Carter, Chase, Caleb and Cole) of Clarksville, Michigan; and Casey Wells of Charlotte, North Carolina); Scott Carpenter of Lowell, Michigan (Craig & Heather Carpenter (Zachary) of Denver, Colorado; Alex & Stacy Carpenter of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Amy Carpenter of Lowell, Michigan).
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 27 at the Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa, Michigan.
