Raymond J. Bond

Raymond J. Bond, age 82, of Lake Odessa, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at his residence. Raymond was born July 18, 1928, in Lansing the son of Paul R. and Lucille G. Bond. Raymond graduated from Woodland High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army in 1950 -1952 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from the service he worked at Fisher Body and left to work at Hastings Manufacturing Company, from which he retired after 37 years of service. On March 24, 1956, Raymond married Helen Gardner, to which a daughter and son were born, Peggy and Scott. Raymond enjoyed planting his garden, mowing his lawn and most of all time with his family. Raymond really enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as they always brought a smile to his face. Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Paul R. Bond, mother, Lucille G. Becker and brother, Leroy P. Bond. Raymond is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Bond; daughter, Peggy Rathburn and husband Steven; son, Scott Bond and wife Robin; grandchildren, Robert Bond, Kiley Henney, Ashley Bond, Kyle Arnie, Gregory Rathburn and wife Kathryn, Holly Rathburn; great grandchildren, Aubree and Arian Bond and their mother Emily Bond, Kendall Bond, Chase and Cruize Rathburn; brothers, Phillip Bond and wife Yvonne, Fred Bond and wife Bonnie; sisters, Kay Harrison and husband Robert, Karen Wirt and husband Kenneth, Judy McEnaney and husband Steven. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the First Congregational Church in Vermontville, 110 South Main Street, Vermontville, MI 49096. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville. Memorial donations in Raymond's name may be directed to Vermontville's Woodlawn Cemetery Tree Planting Fund.
