

Age 90 of Atlantis, FL passed away October 1, 2010. He was born to John and Margaret Holefca in Morris, IL. Dan attended the University of Detroit and was a veteran of World War II, having served four years with the Coast Guard. He spent most of his business life in the specialization field of group insurance and pension plans. He organized his own firm in 1947 in Detroit. Dan built his dream home in Harbor Springs, MI. Dan is remembered as a devout Catholic and past President of the Holy Name Society of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Rochester, MI. He retired in his early 50’s as the president of four corporations and past President of the Michigan Association of Life Insurance Counselors and the Detroit Accident & Health Underwriters Assoc. After retirement he became involved in the vocational development and cultivation for the Catholic Priesthood and was awarded Catholic Layman of the Year for vocations efforts in 2002. His hobbies included sailing, golfing, bridge playing, bowling and he was a top notch Gin Rummy player.
Mr. Holefca is survived by his loving wife Marion of 64 years; children, Barbara Hagen Bechhold (William) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Daniel S. Holefca, Jr. of Port Sanilac, MI, Dennis Holefca (Sally) of Grand Rapids, MI, Dean Holefca (Henrietta) of Rochester Hills, MI and Deborah Coughenour (Paul) of Bloomfield Hills, MI; six grandchildren, Laura Corey, Meredith Hagen, Christina Blue (Justin), Matthew and Peter Coughenour and Christopher Dayner (Jennifer); three great grandchildren, Madison Corey, Parker and Alyssa Blue. He was preceded in death by his brother, Julian Holefca.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 West Lantana Rd., Lantana, FL 33462.
