Dorothy Lillian Chaney, 93, of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully on the morning of
November 17, 2021. Her life journey began with her birth on February 10, 1928 in Columbus, GA.
As a young girl, Dorothy moved to Palm Beach County where she lived over 65 years of her life. She was a graduate of Palm Beach High School and held down several jobs throughout the years, one of which was an elevator operator for the The Harvey Building in downtown West Palm Beach. She was also a longtime employee of Rinker Materials for 32 years. Dorothy, also called Dot, had many good friends in her life but mostly cherished all the years spent making loving memories with her 3 younger sisters and their families. They traveled together and celebrated family birthdays, graduations, weddings, births and any other milestones that needed to be recognized. Dorothy loved being called Aunt Dot by her many nieces and nephews. They were a remarkable close knit family based on a foundation of love and respect.
Dorothy moved to Melbourne, FL in 2004 to live with her only child, daughter Patsy, and be closer to her two grandsons, Jeff and Kyle. Dorothy and Patsy loved to travel and were able to take many trips over the 17 years they lived together. So many beautiful and everlasting memories were made, not only between mother and daughter but also with very special friends that became part of Dorothy's Melbourne family. She had a deep love for the family fur babies Taco, Aspen and Morgan. She had her own unique bond with each one and loved spoiling them. Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was always caring, kind, compassionate and supportive to all her family and loved them unconditionally. She was a fair and honest person that defended her beliefs and those she loved to the end. Dorothy had an amazing inner strength that always kept her moving forward despite any emotional or physical setbacks she may have had in her life. She was beloved by all and will be truly missed.
Even though her journey has ended and her presence is no longer with us, Dorothy's memory will live on forever in all the lives and hearts she touched along the way. She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter, Patsy A. Mong of Melbourne, FL; grandson Jeffrey B. Edwards of Melbourne, FL; grandson Kyle C. Mong of Winter Garden, FL; sisters Jerry L. Hardy of Lake Worth, FL and Barbara A. Barkley of West Palm Beach, FL; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
