

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Sylvester Dean, Jr. on June 7th, 2025. Edward was born in Greenwich, CT on September 15th, 1943 to Edward Sylvester Dean and Elisabeth Gemmell Dean, he was raised in Port Chester, NY and graduated from Port Chester High School in 1961. He was a dedicated baseball player, and a talented pitcher, all through school. He joined the USAF at age 18 where he became a jet engine mechanic, he later worked for Sikorsky Aircraft, working on helicopters. Ed followed his dream and studied at Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, FL to become a pilot. Shortly after, he underwent FAA training to become an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in Oklahoma City. Ed spent the majority of his air traffic control career working at New York Center and later teaching in Islip, Long Island. In 2014, he “retired” to Florida where he later began teaching Air Traffic Control at Broward College until March 2025. He fought a short but brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and passed away peacefully on June 7 due to complications from chemo therapy. He was proceeded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth Dean. He is Survived by two sisters Cathy Dean Martin (Aiken, SC) and Laura Sorgenfrei (Nokomis, FL), and by his twin daughters, Tiffany Dean Williamson and Michele Dean Myers, and their children. A celebration of life service for Edward will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 20, 2025 at Dorsey - E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
