It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Born on August 29, 1926 and raised in Niagara Falls NY by her parents Howard C and Violet (Grandin) Kelberer.
She later married Hubert F Schmitz and celebrated 57 years together. She was the adoring, loving mother to four children, Thomas (Deb), Pamela (Angel), James (Kimberly) and Michael.
In the early 70’s Irene and Hubert relocated to the Lake Worth, FL area with their children where they were members of St Luke’s Catholic Church. Irene retired from Bank of America after sixteen years as Customer Service Bank Rep.
The couple enjoyed many Navy LST 584 reunions and kept close relationships with former WWII shipmates.
Irene was the proud grandmother of Melissa, Jeremy, Jennifer, Matthew, Timothy and Maria and eight great grandchildren, all of whom she kept pictures which she loved to display. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and cousins Margaret (Grandin) Beamer and Richard Kelberer, which she loved to keep in touch with.
She loved Norman Rockwell and the art of Thomas Kinkade. She loved to read especially Janet Evanovich and James Patterson. Everyone who knew her was touched by her beautiful smile and endless kindness. She never forgot a birthday. She will forever be loved and missed.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Jean Mylar and her son Michael.
