John is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn Proteau; daughters: Ashley Carsten (Matthew), and Katie Soto; brother, Marc Proteau; sisters: Claudette Ste Marie (Robert), Andie Stratton (Reginald), and Muguette Limoges (Dennis); grandchildren: Aubrey Rua, Lilah Rua, Bryan Ornelas, Noah Carsten and Kaleb Carsten; 12 nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by son, Eddie Ornelas in 2020.
A gathering of family & friends for John will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am. An inurnment will follow at 11:00 am at Lake Worth Memory Gardens.
There will be another celebration of life for John held in Vermont at a later date.
