

Age 102 of West Palm Beach, FL passed away January 7, 2012 at the Charles W. Gerstenberg Hospice Center. She was born in Baldwyn, MS to Sarah Frances and Pinkey Lee Wallis on August 5, 1909. She attended an agricultural school in Chalybeate, taking part in basketball and Home Econ Club. Her hobbies and activities at their home in Arlington, VA., included gardening, sewing and hiking and membership in the Federation of Business Women.
In West Palm Beach she and her husband Harvie became active members of of Palm Springs Baptist Church in 1971. She started and became the Director of Palm Springers, a senior adult group for over 30 years. She served as director of the Senior Adults, the Adult IV Department and the Food Closet. She also served as a greeter and Sunday School Teacher. Her love for God, family and friends was evident through her loyal and faithful service.
After a successful 30-year career with the Federal Service in Washington D.C., 24 years of it with FCIC, she retired in 1970. Her first six years of Federal Service included a year with the Census Bureau and five years successively with Surplus Marketing, Food Distribution and PMA.
Margaret is survived by two grandsons, Robert Whiteside of West Palm Beach, and Brian Whiteside of Wisconsin; son-in-law, Charles Whiteside of Lake Worth; dear friends, Sam and Ruth Belcher of Lake Worth; loving neighbor, Mary Smith of West Palm Beach; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Harvie; devoted daughter, Peggy Cummings; sister, Emma Hickey, Betty Lee Bryant, Isom Wallis, Eleanor Copeland and Janie Magers.
Friends may visit from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Paul Luis at 10:00am on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Palm Springs Baptist Church, 3300 10th Ave. North, Lake Worth, FL 33461. Interment will follow at Lake Worth Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to Palm Springs Baptist Church or Hospice of Palm Beach County.
