Quentin "Quin" Gerard Sommer Jr., age 78, of Port St Lucie, Florida passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Quin was born on January 18, 1946 in Bronx, New York to the late Quentin and Mary (Faust) Sommer.
As a young man he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time working with his father and his Mustang.
After high school his apprenticeship program prepared him for a Master Electricians position with Port Authority of NY&NJ at JFK Airport and a Management Position with Schiphol.
From 1967 he was drafted into the United States Army. From 1968-1969 he served as a Staff Sargent in the Vietnam Conflict. His decorations and medals include the Purple Heart among others. The experiences and bonds that were made there, were imbedded into his DNA.
When living in NY he liked to vacation on Tropical Islands but once became a resident Floridian he now called his home a staycation…where he enjoyed the palms, warmth and his pool.
His helpful nature and his dry sense of humor managed to make us laugh and brighten up the day… His warmth, kindness and presence will be greatly missed. He will always be remembered.
He is survived by his significant other Jolanta Greczel, children Quentin Gerard Sommer III and Tiffany Marie Sommer, his Grandchildren Quentin Gerard Sommer IV and Gia Marie DePasquale, and his extended family of brothers, nephews, and nieces.
A gathering of friends and family for Quin will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 2326 Middle Country Road, Centereach, NY 11720. A Prayer Service will begin at 12:00 PM. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at 1:30 PM at Calverton National Cemetery, 200 Princeton Blvd, Calverton, NY 11933.
