On May 18, 2016 Rose Walsh, the matriarch of our family passed away at 96. Rose was born Rosina Grazia Russo on Taft Avenue, Staten Island, New York, one of five children (brothers Patrick, John, Vincent and sister Yolanda) of Gandolfo and Grazia Russo. Rose attended Curtis High School, graduating with Arista Honors in 1938. As with most young women of her time, Rose married, became a homemaker and had a family. When her children were grown Rose went to work at Chase Manhattan Bank on Wall Street in New York City, where she became a Supervisor in the Credit Department. In 1964 Rose moved to Palm Springs Florida and worked for many years at the Atlantic Bank in downtown West Palm Beach as Supervisor of the Teller line. A long-time member of the Palm Springs Garden Club she was known for her artistic skill with flower arranging, winning many awards in local flower shows. Rose was a great cook and baker. Italian food was her main specialty. An excellent seamstress, Rose not only made many of her own clothes, she also sewed family communion dresses, graduation dresses and even a wedding dress. She was a strong independent woman, loved being self-sufficient and would tackle almost any job around her home, from putting in a new door lock to installing something as challenging as a mirrored tile wall. Family meant everything to Rose. She was the center that kept her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren close to each other through the years. Rose is survived by her three loving daughters: Loretta (her husband Joseph), Janice (her husband Chet) and Joan (her husband Tom), five grandchildren, Laura, Scott, Christopher, Michael, Thomas, Sheri, and eight great grandchildren, Christian, Christina, Sebastian, Savannah, Samantha, Alejandro, Sofia, and Nicolas. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 26th at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2892 So. Congress Ave., Palm Springs, FL 33461.
