

Sampie Lee Chaney, known to friends as “Sam”, passed away on September 24,2018, at the age of 93. He was born on September 18, 1925 in Coffee County Ga. Sam was a U.S Army veteran of WWII and actively served in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Florida Power and Light company after 40 years of service. Sam’s passions were gardening, bowling, listening to country and gospel music, and playing his guitar. He was a long time member of the American Hibiscus Society and the Mounts Botanical Garden, and an avid bowler at Verdes Tropicana Bowling Alley for some 57 years. Sam was predeceased by his parents George P. Chaney and Hulda (Minix) Chaney, 14 siblings, and Joline Sturm- his loving companion of 20 years. Sam is survived by his brother W.P Chaney of Douglas, Georgia, daughter, Patsy Anne Mong of Melbourne, Fl, grandchildren Jeffrey Edwards of Melbourne, Fl and Kyle Mong of Winter Garden, Fl, Dorothy L. Chaney of Melbourne, Fl (former wife and mother of Patsy), numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Sam will be lovingly remembered and missed by all. A visitation will be held October 4th from 1 to 3 pm with a funeral service from 3-4pm at Dorsey E. Earl Smith Funeral Home 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, Fl 33461. Interment will immediately follow at the Lake Worth Memory Gardens.
