It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Willie James Williams, Sr. age 90 of West Palm Beach, Fl. Better known as Jim to family and friends, he was born in Headland, Alabama to Albert and Ruby Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Sandra Williams, son Jim, Jr., daughter Sherry, 3 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. He is the middle child of 6 with 5 brothers and 1 sister; Horace, Thelma, Curtis, Thomas & Larry
He, along with his family, moved to South Florida from Alabama in the early 40’s and settled in South Bay, Florida where they became solid active members of their community. Jim, along with his brothers, helped their father, who was a carpenter by trade, repair and rebuild many buildings and homes in the Glades area that were damaged by the 1928 Hurricane.
Jim attended and graduated from Belle Glade Community High School where he was a 4-star athlete in Football, Baseball, Basketball and Track. This is where he would meet his future wife Sandra J. Mobley. Jim was also a member of his High School Pep Club and an enthusiastic participant of the Future Farmers of America.
Upon graduating from high school, he became fully employed at the local Gulf gas station. He would later purchase the station which he successfully operated for a number of years.
Jim was always looking to better himself so as to provide a better life for his family. Over the coming years he worked for Sealtest Dairy delivering milk and ice cream to local schools and businesses throughout the Glades. He would later be promoted to Area Supervisor at which time he and his family would move to West Palm Beach, where he and Sandra have resided for more than 50 years. After retiring from Sealtest Dairy he worked for a short time with Orkin Pest Company and then later moved on to the Palm Beach. County. School system as part of their pest control and field maintenance team until he retired at the age of 72.
Jim was a devoted husband and family man and worked hard his whole life to ensure his family had a safe and secure roof over their head and wanted for nothing. He was a very giving man and never hesitated to help friends, family or neighbors when needed. He never met a person he didn’t like. Didn’t matter who it was, he could strike up conversation with anyone. He was just that kind of person, he enjoyed meeting and talking to people.
After retiring, Jim became an avid fisherman. He would spend many days on the local lakes and canals with his family fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. Some of the best times we had were watching his face light up when he would hookup with a monster bass. He also enjoyed bowling. It’s something he started doing during his days at Sealtest. He participated in various leagues over the years and continued to bowl even after retiring. It was just another thing he enjoyed doing as it allowed him to not only be active but spend quality time with family and friends. Among his other hobbies he was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins & later the Florida Marlins. He also enjoyed Nascar racing and followed Jeff Gordon religiously.
Jim was a multi-talented individual. His past experiences in the gas station business and carpentry skills, passed down to him from his father, allowed him to fix or build just about anything. Most of all he was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He tried to instill in us the importance of a good education, knowing right from wrong and to treat people with respect and dignity. Most of all he prepared us to live and survive in what sometimes can be a tough and cruel world.
He will be missed by all his family and friends and forever in our hearts and thoughts.
Rest in Peace.
