

Thomas Whitworth passed away on Friday, May 25th after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was 85 years old. He and his wife Dorothy were married 66 years, they moved to Kelseyville 24 years ago to enjoy their retirement.
He was born in St. Louis, December 7, 1926. He joined the Navy in 1943. He was a Hospital Corpsman during WWII and in the Korean War. He took care of the amputees at Mare Island and Oak Knoll Naval Hospital.
He had 3 children, Laura (Jim) Griffen, Michael (Deena) Whitworth, and Theresa Ryan. He had 9 grandchildren, Lisa Murphy, Tom Griffen, Kelly Goode, Jessica Goode, Kim Hornberg, Justin Jones, Joel Griffen, Michael Griffen and Matthew Juvet, and 9 great-grandchildren.
He worked for 25 years at the San Francisco Examiner. He was very active as a leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for over 10 years. After moving to Lake County he did volunteer work at Clearlake State Park as a docent. He was a great artist and won many awards at the Lake County Fair including Best in Show. He was an avid square dancer with the Clearlake Squares. He loved to travel and went on many cruises to Alaska, Mexico and Panama.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing at Hat Creek and Blue Lakes. He loved camping in the High Country of Yosemite. He was a great story teller. He loved all animals, especially his dog, Rudy.
He leaves us with a great legacy that will go on forever.
He will be remembered for his smile and his mischievous sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of Life with Funeral Mass will occur at St. Mary's Church in Lakeport on June 30th at noon. Military honors will start at 11:30a.m. A reception will follow at the church hall.
Any donations in his name may be made in Tom's name to Hospice of Lake County.
