Kathleen A. Kennedy

Kathleen A. Kennedy, 87 of Bayard, Nebraska and formerly of Sterling, Colorado died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Chimney Rock Villa.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Community Bible Church in Bayard with Pastor Brad Kihlthau officiating. 

Kathleen was born on October 30, 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ray and Bernice Longwith and grew up on a farm near Vinita, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Edmund, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Central State College also in Edmund. She married Virgle Kennedy on March 19, 1943 in Waurika, Oklahoma.

Fro 39 years, Kathleen touched the lives of school children, first as a science and home economics teacher and then as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Sterling and its surrounding area for 32 years retiring in 1986.

For many years, Kathleen was an active part of Sterling community, where she was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Doe’s and BPW. She enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking and fishing as well as spending time in the mountains.

She is survived by her sons, Ray (Marium) of Sterling and Larry (Loretta) of Bayard, six grandchildren: Nicki Kennedy, Belinda (Jason) Fortin, Jenny Greenwell, Charity Kennedy, Rye Kennedy and Seth Kennedy, six great grandchildren: Cade and Autumn Hesslink, Conner Fortin and Molly, Benjamin and Isaac Greenwell, two brothers and one sister.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
