Barbara Jean Smith was released from this physical world to pass into her spiritual world to be with her husband Fletcher on April 6, 2018. Barbara was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on May 29, 1930. She moved to Delta, Colorado as a teen because her mother did not want her to be around all the post-war Navy men. It was in Delta she met Fletcher L. Smith, Sr. a Navy veteran and they were married on September 17, 1947. They moved to Albuquerque, NM where their first child, Fletcher Jr. was born; then off to Richmond, CA and the birth of Gabe; back to Denver, CO where Sharon was born. A few years later the family moved to Glenwood Springs, where she was always the happiest. Brian and Jeffrey were both born in Glenwood Springs.
Barbara spent much of her time raising five children, giving them the love and care they needed. She welcomed all into her home. Before she acted on anything she would consider how her actions might impact others and if there was a chance that there would be a negative affect she would not go forward. Her heart was filled with love for everyone.
Barbara was an amazing cook passing all her recipes on to the family to continue the holiday traditions of Del Monica pudding, chocolate crackle cookies, bon bons, and candy cane cookies to name a few. Her lasagna, fried chicken, chili and Navajo tacos were exceptional and it was always a joy to sit down to her meals.
Barbara and Fletcher Sr. moved to the house at Lakewood Church of Christ and joined the congregation as members and care takers the summer of 1989. Barbara remained a devoted member and worker until she moved to Wheat Ridge in the spring of 2016. In addition to her work at the church building, she spent many hours visiting, caring for, and delivering communion to those friends that were elderly or ill.
Barbara leaves behind a large and loving family:
Her son Fletcher and his wife Mylene
Her son Gabe and his wife Jan
Her daughter Sharon… who is lovingly called Sas
Her son Brian
Her son Jeffrey and his wife Denise
11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
Her sisters Betty and Joanne
As well as numerous nieces and nephews
