Bertha Calderon

Bertha Calderon, 90 years old, resided in Denver, Colorado, passed away on December 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born April 8, 1935, in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico to parents Maria† and Agustin Franco Villegas†.

Bertha joins her son Arturo† and siblings Alfonso†, Manuelito de Jesus†, Olivia†, Calixtro†, Mateo†, Carmelita†, Perfecta†, Jesus†, y Genaro† in Heaven.

Survived by her husband Joe Calderon, her children Alberto, Maria, Rosario, and Isabel. Her grandchildren Nadine, Veronica, Valerie, Celina, Catrina, Vanessa, Richard, and Rebecca. Her great-grandchildren Shilynn, Adam, Angel, Dominick, Steven, Cynthia, Vanessa, Eric, Ava, Noah, Emmie, Jack, Jaxon, Viola, Xavier, Shilynn, and Aaliyha. Her great-great-grandchildren Demetrius, Giana, Violet, and T’Asia. Survived by brother Alfredo and sisters Theodora and Julia.

Bertha with the help of her loving husband of sixty-six years dedicated her life to her family. She loved spending early mornings in her garden. Bertha worked 15 years at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver Colorado. Each year she would make pinatas in celebration of her children’s birthdays. At the end of each school year Bertha with the help of her three daughters would make Mexican crepe flowers and gift them to the school teachers in gratitude for the love and care they show to her children. Bertha would gather her sisters, daughters, and grandkids to make tamales, bunuelos, and bolos de dulce with fruit during the Christmas season.

Her devotion and love for the Catholic Church was profound. She was a beloved and sought after catechist who found immense joy teaching Sunday School. Bertha participated in choir, and as a lector at Sunday mass. Family and friends would reach out to her for spiritual guidance, support, and prayer. She lovingly took the lead holding weekly prayer groups, and for over 40 years organized the Mexican Posadas during the Christmas season at St. Cajetan Church in Denver Colorado. Her favorite Psalm: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Bertha was extremely proud when she became a Citizen of the United States of America. She was naturalized in 1974. She will be greatly missed. Bertha is now in peace in the arms of her savior.

The Viewing and Rosary to be held on January 7, 2026, at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Funeral & Cremation, 6425 W. Alameda Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado from 5-7PM, with Rosary being said at 7PM.

The funeral mass will be held on January 8, 2026, at 11AM at St. Cajetan Church, 299 S. Raleigh St. Denver, Colorado.

Bertha se une a sus padres y a su hijo Arturo† y hermanos Alfonso†, Manuelito de Jesús†, Olivia†, Calixtro†, Mateo†, Carmelita†, Perfecta†, Jesús†, y Genaro† en el Cielo.

Le sobreviven su esposo Joe Calderón, sus hijos Alberto, María, Rosario, y Isabel. Sus nietos Nadine, Veronica, Valerie, Celina, Catrina, Vanessa, Richard, y Rebecca. Bisnietos Adam, Angel, Dominick, Steven, Cynthia, Shilynn, Eric, Ava, Noah, Emmie, Jack, Jaxon, Viola, Xavier y Aaliyha. Tataranietos Demetrius, Giana, Violet, y T’Asia.

Bertha al lado de su amado esposo José de sesenta y seis años se dedicó su vida a su familia. Le encantaba pasar las mañanas en su jardín. Llevo 15 años trabajando en el Hospital Central de St. Anthony, en Denver, Colorado. Cada ano para celebrar los cumpleaños de sus hijos hacia piñatas y preparaba juegos para los niños. Al final del ano escolar Bertha con la ayuda de sus tres hijas hacia flores de papel para regalar a los profesores en gratitud por el cuidado de sus hijos. Ella reunía a las hermanas, hijas, y nietos para hacer tamales, buñuelos, y bolos de dulce con fruta y cacahuates en preparación para las Posadas durante el tiempo Navideño.

Su devoción a la iglesia católica era profunda. Ella fue amada y buscada como catequista. Encontró una inmensa alegría ensenando catecismo. Bertha compartía en grupos de oración, participaba en el coro, y como lector en misa cada Domingo. Familia y conocidos recurría a ella en busca de consejos espiritual y oración en tiempo difíciles. Por más de 40 años organizaba Las Posadas navideña mexicana junto con la Iglesia de San Cayetano en Denver, Colorado. Su Salmo favorito era: El Señor es mi pastor nada me falta. Era orgullosa de ser ciudadano estadounidense, ella fue naturalizada en el año 1974.

Se le extrañara muncho. Bertha ahora esta en paz en los brazos de su salvador.

Se llevará a cabo el Velorio el 7 de enero de 2026, 5-7PM; Rosario 7PM en la Funeraria Advantage Runyan Stevenson Funeral & Cremation, 6425 W. Alameda Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado.

Se oficiará la misa en la Iglesia de San Cajetano, 299 S. Raleigh St. Denver, Colorado el 8 de enero de 2026, 11AM.
