Brian Dietz, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend passed away on January 7, 2024. Born in Gering, Nebraska, on April 17th, 1937, to Reinhart ‘Rinie’ and Wilhelmina ‘Minie’ (Zwetzig) Dietz, Brian shared his journey with an adored sister, Sylvia Spangler, and the late Thomas Spangler of Utah. Brian's life was marked by passion, dedication, and love.
Brian was raised and educated in Denver, graduating from West Denver High in 1956. He attended and graduated from Western State College, where he was an active member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Following college, he served in the army for two years, stationed at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. After discharge, he embarked on a successful career, starting with R.J. Reynolds Company and later working for Borden’s Chemical Division as a Sales Representative and, eventually, as District Sales Manager for the Rocky Mountain States.
Brian began his tenure at Pentel of America on May 1, 1980, and after 19 years, his recommendation was selected as the New Product Idea winner in 1993. Concluding his career with Professional Sales Associates, Brian retired in 2003.
Active in the community, Brian played a pivotal role in the Rocky Mountain Office Products Association, formerly Rocky Mountain Traveler’s Club, becoming a member in 1967. He served as President from 1984-85 and later as a Board Member in 1994.
Upon retirement in 2003, Brian moved to SunRiver at St. George, UT, where he enjoyed his golden years, surrounded by dear friends, including his sister and brother-in-law. His favorite pastime was golf, and he was an avid member of the SunRiver Men’s Golf Association. A proud moment for him was on 2/14/2004 when he accomplished his first Hole-In-One.
In the words of a close friend, "Sports were his life!" Brian was an ardent sports fan, with the CU football and basketball teams holding a special place in his heart. A CU football ticket holder for over 30 years, he traveled to Wisconsin for a game, attended the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, AZ, and witnessed the 'Miracle at Michigan' game in 1994. Some of his fondest memories were tailgating at CU games, win or lose, with close friends.
In 2018, Brian returned to Colorado at Windcrest, Highlands Ranch, where he appreciated the dedicated young staff and enjoyed his 'Morning Coffee Group.'
On September 5, 1965, Brian married the love of his life, Judith Marie Mike. They had two children – Denise Marie (Jim Desmond) of Burlington, MA, and Michael Brian (Jen Pond) of Denver. After the death of his wife in 1974, he curtailed his work and travel, dedicating himself to raising his two children as a single parent.
Brian’s true passion was his seven amazing grandchildren: Savannah (Christian) Priebe, Judith Dietz, Judith Desmond, Connor Desmond, Brendan Dietz, Charles Desmond, and Christian Dietz.
Brian also leaves behind his nephew, Tommy Spangler, and niece, Tammy Iriondo, both of Utah, cousins, and many cherished friends.
