Mourice James "Jim" Befort, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2026, in Thornton, Colorado. Born June 6, 1935, in Antonino, Kansas, Jim lived a full and vibrant life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.
Jim was the son of Mike and Mary Befort and grew up on the family farm near Hays, Kansas. He was one of 17 children and the last surviving member of his beloved family. Among his fondest memories was playing on a recreation baseball team formed with his eight brothers…. a lineup that was as easy to remember as it was cherished.
From 1952 to 1956, Jim proudly served in the Army National Guard. In 1954, Jim married Esther Mader. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where Jim sought new opportunities. He began his career in construction before transitioning into the restaurant and bar industry, where he worked for many years. His strong work ethic and friendly nature left a lasting impression on those he met throughout his life.
A devout Catholic, Jim was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and an active participant in the Knights of Columbus. His faith was central to his identity and provided him with strength and purpose.
Jim had a zest for life that touched everyone around him. He was an avid golfer who relished time on the course and a passionate sports fan known for being the ultimate "Monday Morning Quarterback." Whether discussing last night’s game or sharing stories from his youth, Jim brought energy and humor to every conversation. His friendships spanned decades and were marked by loyalty and warmth.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Esther Befort; children Vicki, Doug, Don; daughter-in-law Janet; grandchildren Aaron and Jamie with her husband Ryan; and great-grandchild Luke. His legacy lives on through them and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May Mourice James "Jim" Befort’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who carry forward his spirit of joy, faith, and resilience. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 17th, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary 11385 Grant Drive. Rosary 10:30, Mass 11:00 and 12:00 lunch following mass.
