Twila was born in Wahoo, Nebraska to the family of Anna and John Olson, and almost 10-year-old sister, Ardath. Twila graduated from Wahoo High School in 1958.
Shortly thereafter, she moved to Omaha to live at the YWCA and work at Postal Finance as a clerk. Then Twila moved into a house with three roommates, two who were cousins. They introduced her to their cousin, Dan Winterfeld. Twila and Dan were married in 1961 in Wahoo, Nebraska.
Dan and Twila had two daughters, Lee Ann and Julie. When the children were small, Twila baby sat in her home. When her children were older, she became a sacker and then checker at Hinky Dinky grocery. When Hinky Dinky closed in 1985, Twila began working at Arthur Andersen accounting firm in the central files department. Twila retired from Arthur Andersen in 2002.
Twila enjoyed retirement with her traveling companions Patty, Madylon, Fern, and Jeanie, enjoying Alaskan and Carribean cruises, as well as other adventures around the United States.
Known for her great laugh, Twila was also highly endeared by many for her willingness to accept people “as is” in the process of life. You could be real with Twila.
Twila is survived by Lee Ann and John Hufford and their four daughters, Heather, Heidi, Holly, and Harmony of Lakewood, Colorado; and Julie Winterfeld and Juan Menchaca of Omaha, Nebraska. Twila was preceded in death by husband, Dan; sister, Ardath; and parents, John and Anna Olson.
Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Unity of Omaha, 3424 North 90th Street, Omaha, Nebraska. Twila truly wanted this to be a celebration of her life, so please wear colorful attire and a smile.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Unity of Omaha or the church of your choice.
