Arlene Elizabeth Hegedus, age 73, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. Arlene was born on December 14, 1943, in Edison, NJ, and she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Stephen Zigre. Formerly of Edison, NJ, she was a resident of Lakewood for the last 46 years. Arlene was a retired cafeteria worker, and had served the Lakewood Public School System for 22 years. Arlene was a generous soul who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Joseph; her son Michael Hegedus and his wife Melissa; 2 grandchildren, Gabriel and Violet Hegedus; 4 sisters, Betty Lou Varone and her husband Robert, Cynthia Southwell, Vanessa Cockton and her husband Danny, and Lisa Zigre; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in the St. Mary of the Lake Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
