

Bernard Gindoff, 88, passed away May 3, 2014 at Rose Garden Nursing in Toms River. Mr. Gindoff spent most of his life in Lakewood Township, attending the local schools and joined the US Army in 1943, serving three years and doing some time in the Philippines. Upon his return home he became a member of the Southard Fire Department for six years. He was the first court officer of Lakewood under Magistrate Henry Gertner. Bernard joined the Lakewood Police Department in 1960, serving 29 years and retiring in 1989 at the rank of Lieutenant. He was the first officer to be chosen to head up the Lakewood Township Traffic and Safety Division. Mr. Gindoff served on the Republican Club, the PAL Program, Lakewood Township Emergency Management and with the Lakewood Municipal Court System for many years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Gindoff is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Tess Bermand Gindoff, three brothers and two sisters. Bernard is survived by his two daughters Sue Ann Anderson and her husband Andy and Lisa Clowes and her husband Duane, two grandsons, Michael and his wife Linda Anderson and Brian and his wife Joann Anderson, three great grandchildren, Brennan, William and James Anderson, brother, Abe Gindoff and his wife Roz and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 4-8pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 10AM at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Ocean County Memorial Park, in Toms River.
