

Charles N. Garbe, age 88, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on July 11, 1925 in Suffern, NY, and he was the son of the late Margaret and Alfred O. Garbe. He was a longtime resident of Mahwah, NJ, and had been the owner and operator of the Big “G” Nursery and was a gardening and flower enthusiast. Charles summered in Lavallette, NJ, and he loved spending time with his family at the beach. After he retired, he made Lavallette his home year round before moving to Lakewood. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan; four children, Colleen Garbe, Gregory Garbe and his wife Lynn, Chuck Garbe and his wife Jennifer, and Kellie Conte and her husband Mike; and four adoring grandchildren, Jake and Adam Garbe and Jack and Maggie Conte; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
