Frank J. Occhiogrosso

Frank was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 24, 1938 to Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Raffaella Occhiogrosso. In 1957 he served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years where he was stationed aboard the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier. He is survived by his beloved wife Claire Occhiogrosso. They were married on October 12th, 1963.

Frank and Claire bought their first home in 1964 in the Westerleigh section of Staten Island, NY. After a few years working at General Electric he then joined the New York City Police Department in 1966. He received his Bachelor’s degree at night from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He retired after 20 years as a decorated Detective working with the Organized Crime Control Bureau. He then worked another 8 years as a Special Agent for three different Federal agencies: the FBI, DEA and Customs.

They raised two boys; Joseph Jude Occhiogrosso, born in 1966 and John Jude Occhiogrosso, born in 1968. Frank was a very dedicated father who made sure to work the 7am to 3pm shift so he could be home in time to help the boys with homework and sports activities. He loved to take the boys crabbing and fishing and was very active in their Little League Baseball lives serving as a manager, coach and board member.

In 1979 he built his family a new custom home in the Princess Bay section of Staten Island. He not only served as the G.C. but he did most of the carpentry himself. In 2001, Frank and Claire moved to an “over 55” golf community in Ocean County, NJ. Besides playing golf a few times a week, he was very active in his new community and was a co-founder of the Amici Club. One of the missions of the club was to raise money to ship care packages to our active U.S. military serving in the Middle East.

He is survived by his wife Claire, his youngest son John and eldest son Joseph, daughter-in-law AnnMarie and their three children Alexander, Stephanie and Frankie.

Visitation will be at the D'Elia Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 17th from 4-8 pm, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 18th at 10:30 am at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, N.J. Burial will be a private service at a later date at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
