

James “Jim” Aloysius Mooney was born on January 14, 1929 in Jersey City. He passed away April 17, 2013 peacefully at Community Medical Center in Toms River, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was predeceased by his parents, William and Ellen (nee Grandy) Mooney, and his siblings, Dorothy, Helen, Margie, Ed and Bill. Jim (Chopper) played several seasons with the Hoyas Football Team in Jersey City. Jim was very proud of his service in the US Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Fargo and visited 60 ports in 2 years. Jim retired from NJ Transit in 1991 after 42 years. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3402. Jim lived in Jersey City for many years, before moving to Matawan and then retiring to Whiting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margie (Woods) Mooney. He is also survived by children, Margie (Butch) Ward, Jim (Peg), Bill (Haydee), Mike, Ken (Lisa), Tim and Dan (Kristen). Jim loved spending time with his 18 grandchildren, Eddy (Connie) Ward, Tricia (Gerald) Ryan, Sean Ward, Jimmy (Jen) Mooney, Melissa (Chris) Mata, Meghan Mooney, Philip Mooney, Willie Mooney, Ilyssa Mooney, Sammy Mooney, Christopher Mooney, Cody Mooney, Jenna Mooney, Nicole Mooney, Daniel Mooney, Trevor Mooney, Kaitlyn Mooney and Patrick Mooney. Jim was adored by his 9 great grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, and Katie Ryan, Eddie Ward, Joshua Witko-Mooney, Christopher, Lana and Julia Mata, and Jennessa Morgan. Jim will be sorely missed by his lifelong friends Ag and Tom Ebert, as well as the Ryan, Russo, Woods, Ebert, Kitrick and Foley families. Friends may call Monday, April 22, 2013 from 4-8pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 10:30AM at the St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood. Interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
