

John Freitas, 60, of Lakewood, NJ, beloved son and brother was born in New York City and loved the cinema his whole life. After getting his masters from the New School in lower Manhattan he began teaching film studies. With over 25 years of teaching experience he taught all aspects of film including film theory, production and screenwriting. He created numerous courses exploring such topics as American and International cinemas of horror, technology and science-fiction, road movies and the comedies of Ernest Lubitsch & Preston Sturges. He also taught film production, film aesthetics and screenwriting at Hofstra
University and screenwriting at Pratt Institute.
Besides being an Associate Teaching Professor and Film Program Advisor & program coordinator at the New School department of Media Studies and Film, John was also a development analyst for Warner Brothers and Sony Pictures, sold screen plays to Dustin Hoffman, Hakalax and Mandrake Productions, Finland, Canal Plus, France & producer Edward R. Pressman. He was interviewed about various film topics by the NY Daily News, NY Sun, Diversity Inc., MSNBC and Bravo Television. One of his works is the remake of Brian DePamela's film Sisters.
Predeceased by his parents he is survived by his sister Elizabeth. John was passionate loving, clever and funny. He was much loved and will be sorely missed.
